Elements of a Garment Series


Over the course of this class you will create a reference binder of sewing techniques. We will dissect garments and examine each constructed detail. Seam finishes, hems, bias facing, bias binding, darts, casings, cuffs, zippers, pockets, plackets, and more will be covered.  

Juki industrial straight stitch machines will be provided to use in class. 

Must have some sewing experience. If you do not know how to use an industrial machine, you may rent one of ours or bring your own home sewing machine. 

Length of class: 4 weeks (8 sessions of 3 Hrs, plus optional Lab time on Fridays)

Bring with you to class:
- A cone of 100% polyester thread, such as serger thread
- Pencil
- Notebook to write notes
- 2” x 24” gridded see-thru ruler
- 1 yard of muslin
- Fabric scissors
- Tape measure
- Dressmaker straight pins
